.....As the Jung trained psychoanalysts might say.
Here is what a top animator is quoted as saying to the New York Times:
“We’re like psychoanalysts. We try to find what the underlying problem is. You have problems with your mother? Let’s go back and look at your toilet training.”
The uses of discrete differential geometry go far beyond animation.
As he sees it, his work frees the artists from worrying about a puffed sleeve so they can focus on what they do best, like capturing expressive emotion. His reward is different: “As long as you make pretty pictures, you get to keep learning all this math and physics.”
[I have to get off this psycho-social kick I've been on lately and get back to nuts and bolts kind of things. Working in the mental health system was probably the worst thing that could have happened to me.]
This blog will be just a place for me to empty the contents of my head.

Youth is wasted on the Jung......
.....And, you are only Jung once.
The United Nations has declared that 2011 will be the International Year of Chemistry - a time to honor the role chemistry plays in our lives. Meanwhile, Jungians celebrate chemistry in a different sense of the word - the sense that means natural attraction. I can't swallow the idea that "a person is never too Jung".
From a cursory glance at some of what Jung believed, he may have been correct about what draws one person to another or a person to a product but, he was probably wrong about the reasons why. He puts too much emphasis on the spiritual with it's ersatz science of alchemy and other occult phenomenon.
The alchemists of old never succeeded in changing a heavy metal, lead, into gold. However, present day psychiatrists have found a way to change the lightest metal, lithium, into something even better. It is a compound that changes the brain chemistry of persons who want to be in love with their soul.
Just think about how much money is saved in therapy fees when a psychiatrist can do three med reviews an hour instead of providing psychotherapy to a single client for the same amount of time. It's a lot easier, too.
Ah, progress.

Sixth Worst Snow Storm in New York History
Well I didn't really want to go to New York anyway. LOL I can't see myself just zipping into town for a few hours only to turn around and head out again.....without sleep. I planned on staying out on Long Island at a place I've stayed before but, I know from the news reports that they are pretty well socked in. The busses aren't running on New Years Day even with good weather and I'd have to rely on cabs, busses, train and subways. Maybe next year I'll be rich and can charter a plane. (Yeah, right!) Hopefully, I'll have a car by then.

Been planning a trip to New York for the New Year's Eve bash in Times Square. I know that I should have started earlier and have been heeing and hawing about where to stay and how to get to the Gotham for the party. I really missed out on some good deals by procrastinating but, I finally made up my mind.

Book Worm
[This is a post made by me on another blog some time ago. I'm just putting it up here to give people an idea of where I'm comming from.]
I'll just have to start using the blog as a daily journal of sorts to keep occupied until something interesting happens to really get into.
Since I only get to visit the site sporadically when I get access by using someone elses computer, I've had a lot of time to catch up on my reading. Let's see, I've read Temporarily Yours, about sex work; Working Sex, about sex work; Naked On The Internet, about sex work; and I'm about to finish Love, Sex, and Matriarchy, not about sex work directly but, could be construed that way. And, that has only been in the past month or so along with a couple of other books from the library.
Monday is laundry day so, it's back to work for me.

Where Madness Blooms Like Flowers In The Spring
I recently renewed my look into the link between genius and mental illness. It is something I've had a life long interest in and regularly check around to see what, if any, new discoveries have been made. The advent of fMRI is opening many new avenues into explanations of the mysteries of the mind.
What really caught my attention is a study that found thirty-eight percent (38%) of people in the creative professions succumb to mental illness as opposed to two percent (2%) of the general population. People have long associated artists and musicians with mental illness. Some claim that the high rate of mental disorders among such creative types of people make them more understanding an accepting, which in turn, draws more people into these professions.
Is it any wonder that Midtown and the Cass Corridor have been magnets for the arts? The Detroit Wayne County Community Mental Health office is also smack dab in the center of the burgeoning arts community. With the Detroit being ground zero for the recent economic meltdown, the low cost of living here has caused the art scene to mushroom and flourish. The so call "blank canvas" of the abandoned inner city with it's post industial ruins are a fertile ground for people who think outside the box to try new ideas.
I hope it is all for the better but, sometimes I have my doubts. It was not very long ago that the streets of downtown Detroit and Pontiac were called, argueably, the largest mental health care facility in the State. Second only to the criminal justice system.

Chrome wheeled, fuel injected and stepping out over the line!
It isn't until the cold weather sets in that a person can appreciate the privilege of owning a car. I'm 62 years old and have been driving since I was 16 years old. That is, I was driving until about three years ago when the police finally got around to taking away the old clunker I was driving. My whole life has been centered around the automobile and all other types of internal combustion engine powered vehicles. I've built and owned a race car, truck, a boat, motorcycle and worked at jobs that involved everthing from the time iron ore comes into a steel mill until a finished car rolls off the assembly line. When I didn't work in a car factory or a supplier I was into parts, maintenance or transportation. Even when I was in the Army I had car and was in an Armored Cavalry unit spending many hours in the motor pool. I spent most of my free time at drag strips with my buddies who were also hot rodders.
Needless to say, my life has been a hell on earth since June 12, 2007. I've been bicycling off and on for more than 27 years when I bought the bike that I still use today. I used to bicycle and jog/walk for fun and used a bike rack in my car to travel all over to different paths but mostly Stony Creek Metropark. Having to rely on muscle power for transportation instead of leisure makes it a drudgery very soon.

Didn't accomplish much today. Just went about my usual ritual of stopping at Starbucks to use the WiFi service and see who else is blogging around here.
A person I worked for last year was interviewed along with a couple other movers and shakers from the area on the WDET this evening. I haven't been in touch with him lately but, it is good to hear that he is still around and pushing the national media for more positive coverage of Detroit.
The cold weather is forcing me to push back the work I have planned at my old house. Propane for heat has to be picked up along the gasoline for a portable generator. It is a bit of a hassle when using the bus system to get around.

Still keeping a roof over my head
I wrote a lengthy post last night and after reviewing it this morning, decided it was to personal and revealing. Maybe, I can doctor it up to get my point across with hurting anybody. Anyway, my life still revolves around midtown and stopping along the way while bicycling or walking from downtown to my old house in Poletown. Since I wasted all of my time writing a post that will not be shown, I'll put up some pics from a trip to New York City
This was taken in Carrol's Garden on Court St. in Brooklyn.
I think this was taken at the start of the Brooklyn Bridge walkway. That is the East River in the foreground and Manhattan in the distance.
Another picture from the Brooklyn side of the bridge looking south at Governor's Island.
Here is a shot of Manhattan getting closer to the end of the bridge.
This is looking northwest from the Brooklyn Bridge from about the middle of the East River.
This is a shot from the bridge while over old terra firma.
I have remember to take my camera with me whenever and keep it handy whenever I travel. My cell phone has many more pics that are far more interesting but, I had to cancel my uplink to Flicker due to a cash flow problem.

Just For Openers
Since this is my first post I will try to keep it simple. It will probably take some time for me to get used to this new site. It will also be hard going from the type of blogging I was doing on an adult site to this one. Anyway, this will be more of a journal than anything else.
Lately, I have been preoccupied with good loves that have gone bad around me. I'll expand on this theme when there is more time. I have to blog on the run from WiFi Hotspots until I'm in a more permanent mode of operation. I have to start planning some trips also.
