How A $500 Craigslist Car Beat $400K Rally Racers

Found this article while researching ( I like using fancy words for browsing) on the GRC, 560 HP Volkswagen Beetle featured on a news feed. I've always wanted to build a pocket rocket and did in fact start on one many years ago in the form of a '79 Ford Pinto which I purchased new that year. After five years of use it was due for a 100,000 mile tear down and I reassembled the engine with some mods, i.e., forged pistons, bronze guides, hipo cam, lifters and various reworking of cooling, exhaust and other tricks learned from drag racing. I eventually ran low of money and used the Pinto on the street while starting on another project that seemed more promising, an NHRA gas coupe Fairmont with a Clevor engine, but that is another story. I've spent a lot of time scowering junk yards and scrap metal heaps so a story like the one linked below, to me, is an inspiration.
